Who are you and what do you do?
I’m a proud mum of three! A boy/girl set of twins, Billy and Jax ages 23 and Olivia, 21. Yellow lab, Barley, 6.
Who do you work with?
I work with the home cook who wants healthy whole foods, wants to cook at home and entertain. The cook doesn’t want overly fussy foods but still wants to look like a rockstar when the meal comes to the table. I also work with people who have allergies or special medical needs. People who want food to help them heal.
Think of my recipes as the amazing ones that were handed down to you by your mum or grandmother. I am that recipe box!
What Is your greatest strength in what you do?
Menu planning and execution. I’m really good at putting a menu together for any occasion, making it flow, easy to prepare and do ahead so that dinner is timed perfectly or you can enjoy your party and still have time to look like a knockout!
I also love making life fast and easy in the kitchen, I’m great at multitasking and taking the fear out of cooking. I also don’t want to spend more time than necessary on a recipe, so I teach lots of shortcuts!
Why not just read a recipe book or get recipes online?
It is true, there are a plethora of great books and amazing recipes out there. But what people love about my classes are all the little tips to make their life easier, faster and more efficient in the kitchen. You don’t get stuff like that from a book. Also. People find me entertaining :).
What’s different about the way you teach?
I love science and the arts. I bring it both to the kitchen. I talk about the whys things work, how things come together and how to make it look amazing. I teach people how to plan ahead, meal prep and how NOT to spend the day in the kitchen, all using whole foods!
What about all the allergies and diets out there, how do you deal with that?
I talk about it all. I offer substitutions for people at home to do for example, how to keep things gluten-free, paleo, nut-free, kosher…etc
Tips: that’s what people love the most! People say I have this way of explaining things that just makes sense!
Who are your favourite celebrity chefs?
I love Nigella Lawson because she is so sexy in the kitchen. I love Anthony Bourdain because of how he talks and writes. I love how he is so open to communicating with everybody. because he is so casual in the kitchen and I love Yotam Ottolenghi because salads are my favourite thing to create and he does such a damn good job at those!
Who is your inspiration?
My grandmother, 97 years young. She loved to cook and entertain. Take-out was not something I grew up with. We have a big family and holidays are competitive, who makes the best brisket, pies or whatever is on the table. Catering was not an option. Everybody in the family cooks, even my kids!
Do you cook for your family every night?
I compare my kids to the shoemakers children… they hardly get a new pair of shoes.
Who writes your recipes?
I’m inspired by so many different sources all the time, but almost all my recipes are original. I love recipe testing, developing and writing. I take great pride in writing a recipe that works, tastes amazing and is fail-proof every time. My clients tell me that their main go-to recipes come from me.
